On June 29 a large storm hit our area. On July 4 the fireworks were canceled by our county executive.

This is a community fireworks that is very family oriented including live music local food and businesses and some pretty darn good fireworks. We look forward to it every year.

When they canceled. We were upset.  Being a glass half full kind of gal, I thought this will be a good excuse to have some fun with the kids….

Well the kids had some ideas as well. It was another 100 degree day in Maryland.

We had a nice breakfast together. I made a batch of bug spray and we all cleaned up. The kids decided they would have a lemonade stand near the neighborhood pool. They dressed in colonial outfits, we made tri-corner hats, lemonade and cookies.

My dad came by and supported their cause. They had a pretty good set up. They were positioned on the route to the pool. So they got people on the way in and on the way out!

They sold over three dozen cookies and over two.5 gallons of fresh squeezed lemonade. My little entrepreneurs.

I was really proud they worked hard and made some good money.

We all went to the pool to cool off and swam some laps. The kids also swam laps but mostly splashed around and had a great time. We walked home to get cleaned up.

Our Independence day was not over yet! We had some July 4th fair and some cupcakes.

Then after cleaning up, we all participated in a dramatic reading of the Declaration of the Independence…… 30 minutes later, we watched the DC fireworks on the TV with the patriotic music in the background.

It was a fun time and we didn’t  need to deal with the crowds on the Metro on the way home!

Happy Independence day!
